My Thoughts

There are some events or activities that bring out the true nature and character of your family. In our family, some of the games we play tends to bring out the competitive spirit amoungst our family members. A simple game of croquet in the back yard can bring out passions and intensity not seen all the time. And besides, it’s fun! It doesn’t take complicated plans, devised, or manufactured occasions to get a glimpse of a person’s heart. When we simplify some of our activities it can become more about the people and less stress about the activity. It becomes easier to invite others along with us, and include someone else.

I know in our yard, if someone whines too much, you become a target. Your croquet ball may just get knocked down the hill into the nei Read More »

This last week I spent some time on our adopted piece of the Mission Creek Greenway (between Ziprick & Gerstmar). The city supplied “kits” to help with the task. Amongst the items in the kit were aluminum grabbers. They have a handle on one end, with a trigger and on the other end of a 2 foot extension are two small spring loaded suction cup devices mounted on finger like appendages. You pull the trigger, the little suction cups pull together to grasp stuff. In this case its garbage I was grasping. Another thing I appreciate is the mutual desire to encourage each other. And this desire is usually followed up by words of cheer in the field or at bat. Even when you (me) mess up, strike out, muff a throw, send a runner when you shouldn’t,…they are gracious. Those kind of things make us a good team, but it also helps when we are victorious. I like that we cheer for the other team at the end of the game, that we don’t openly mock the opposition, that we go to Dairy Queen and get ice cream. It’s fun to hang out with their kids and be with people in “another” se Read More »

We deliberately call many of our small groups CARE groups, and even made an acrostic out of the word care to describe what we would like to see occur in these groups;

I am intrigued with this passage in the book of Acts, and the dynamics involved in the early church...

Acts 6:1: In those days when the number of disciples was increasing, the Grecian Jews among them complained against the Hebraic Jews because their widows were being overlooked in the daily distribution of food.
