Smaller churches in urban centers have a tough time attracting people because those people have urban expectations for options, quality of programming, safety guarantees and so on. Smaller churches lack the needed resources to really ‘get in the game’ and often struggle. The attrition rate of these churches is testament to this struggle.

Even though I am right in the middle of the Baby boom generation, I do see signs that the Boomer style and dominance is beginning to pass. Younger leaders are calling for something different in church ministry and if we in leadership do not listen to them, our churches face difficult days in the future. Words I hear are: community, relationship, sharing, cooperation and authenticity. I believe our stated desire to offer “medium church feel and large church amenity” will resonate with the upcoming generations – if we can get it right. I believe the multisite concept offers this potential for the long term.

We have proposed becoming one church in two locations. I think this is good stewardship. It makes us stronger together than apart. I think it is addressing the future of the Canadian church.

I invite your input as we come to a vote.
