Since 2007 people across Canada have taken a day, February 25th to be exact, to wear a pink shirt in solidarity with the bullied and to stand against bullying. Pink shirts remind me of something Jesus said:  “Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness...” But what does righteousness have to do with pink shirts?

Over the past few weeks we’ve been learning precisely what Jesus meant by these words.  The righteous-hungry are those who long to live rightly in this world; who live rightly with God, themselves, other people, and even the earth which God has entrusted to us.

The righteous live rightly.  The righteous act justly.  The righteous leverage their power and privilege to oppose injustice.  The righteous lend their strength to those without it.  The righteous wear pink shirts.

If you’re wearing pink today because you know the pain of words or violence, we’re standing with you.  Today we’ve been praying for you.  Praying that God would bring healing and hope to your world, praying that you would know Jesus.  Praying that the people of Mission Creek Alliance Church will take our place as leaders in our city to comfort those who have suffered at the hands of domestic violence and work to put an end to it.

Now that’s something to hunger and thirst after.
